Week 8 of the 2026 NFL season delivered spectacular individual performances, dramatic comebacks, and one of the most remarkable injury returns we’ve seen this season.
Joe Burrow produced six total touchdowns in Cincinnati’s overtime victory against Tennessee, while Gardner Minshew came off the bench to engineer an extraordinary comeback against Dallas. Jordan Love delivered three touchdown passes as Green Bay defeated Carolina, and Patrick Mahomes impressed despite Kansas City’s defeat in Denver.
At wide receiver, Tee Higgins dominated Tennessee, Christian Watson displayed remarkable determination after a trip to the hospital, and Michael Wilson played a crucial role in Arizona’s comeback victory. Adonai Mitchell also produced his best performance of the season despite a disappointing result for the Jets.
As always, EST Excellence recognizes more than just statistics. The quality of the opposition, the importance of the performance, and the impact on the outcome all matter.
Here are our Week 8 selections.
EST Excellence — Quarterbacks
🥇 1. Joe Burrow — Cincinnati Bengals
Week 8 Stats: 38/48 Passing | 462 Yards | 5 Passing TD | 3 INT | 1 Rushing TD
Back-to-back gold medals for Joe Burrow!
A week after throwing four second-half touchdowns against Baltimore, Burrow delivered another extraordinary offensive performance against Tennessee.
The Bengals quarterback completed 38 of 48 passes for 462 yards and five touchdowns, adding another score on the ground as Cincinnati escaped with a 43–36 overtime victory.
That’s six total touchdowns.
Burrow was responsible for an incredible amount of Cincinnati’s offensive production, repeatedly finding his receivers as the Bengals battled to overcome a determined Titans team.
His connection with Tee Higgins was particularly devastating, with Higgins recording 155 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Ja’Marr Chase added 141 yards and another score.
However, this performance wasn’t flawless.
Burrow threw three interceptions, and Cincinnati once again found itself in a much closer contest than expected.
Those mistakes cannot be ignored, particularly against stronger opposition.
Nevertheless, producing 462 passing yards and six total touchdowns is exceptional.
Burrow’s ability to keep generating offense ultimately proved decisive.
For the second consecutive week, Joe Burrow takes our gold medal.
🥈 2. Gardner Minshew — Arizona Cardinals
Week 8 Stats: 17/23 Passing | 188 Yards | 3 TD | 0 INT
Minshew Mania is alive and well!
Gardner Minshew entered Arizona’s matchup against Dallas off the bench and proceeded to deliver one of the most impressive quarterback performances of Week 8.
The Cardinals found themselves facing a difficult situation against the Cowboys, but Minshew immediately brought energy and efficiency to the offense.
He completed 17 of 23 passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns without an interception.
His biggest contribution came in the final moments of regulation.
Trailing Dallas 30–24, Minshew led Arizona on an 80-yard touchdown drive in just over a minute.
He found Michael Wilson for a 13-yard touchdown with six seconds remaining, giving the Cardinals an opportunity to steal the victory.
Although the extra point was missed, Arizona eventually prevailed 33–30 in overtime.
Minshew didn’t produce the enormous yardage totals of some other quarterbacks this week.
But EST Excellence isn’t simply about accumulating statistics.
Coming off the bench, throwing three touchdowns without a turnover, and engineering a dramatic comeback victory deserves recognition.
Minshew earns our silver medal.
🥉 3. Jordan Love — Green Bay Packers
Week 8 Stats: 30/41 Passing | 288 Yards | 3 TD | 1 INT
Jordan Love delivered an impressive performance as Green Bay defeated Carolina 27–19 on Thursday Night Football.
The Packers quarterback completed 30 of 41 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns.
Love distributed the football effectively, finding Tucker Kraft, Matthew Golden, and Josh Jacobs for touchdown receptions.
Green Bay’s running game struggled throughout the contest, placing additional responsibility on Love to move the offense.
He responded by consistently finding opportunities through the air.
The Packers eventually built a 27–10 advantage before Carolina attempted a late comeback.
Love did throw an interception, and Green Bay’s offense struggled to close out the contest cleanly.
Nevertheless, his passing performance was instrumental in establishing the lead that ultimately secured the victory.
Three touchdown passes and nearly 300 yards earn Love our bronze medal.
Honorable Mention: Patrick Mahomes — Kansas City Chiefs
Week 8 Stats: 30/41 Passing | 321 Yards | 3 TD | 0 INT
Patrick Mahomes deserves recognition despite Kansas City’s 28–24 defeat against Denver.
After the Chiefs managed just three points against Seattle the previous week, Mahomes delivered a significantly improved offensive performance.
He completed 30 of 41 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns without throwing an interception.
Kansas City’s offense looked considerably more dangerous, and Mahomes repeatedly created opportunities against a difficult Broncos defense.
Unfortunately, the Chiefs couldn’t finish the job.
Denver mounted a fourth-quarter comeback and secured the victory, handing Kansas City its second consecutive defeat.
Mahomes certainly wasn’t the reason the Chiefs lost.
His performance was one of the strongest quarterback displays of the week, even if the final result was disappointing.
Three touchdowns, 321 passing yards, and no interceptions earn him an honorable mention.
EST Excellence — Wide Receivers
🥇 1. Tee Higgins — Cincinnati Bengals
Week 8 Stats: 10 Receptions | 155 Yards | 2 TD
Tee Higgins was outstanding against Tennessee.
The Bengals receiver caught ten passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns, helping Cincinnati secure a dramatic 43–36 overtime victory.
Higgins consistently provided Joe Burrow with a reliable target as Cincinnati’s offense produced six touchdowns.
His combination of size, route running, and ability to make contested catches made him extremely difficult for Tennessee’s secondary to contain.
What makes this performance even more impressive is that Higgins was coming off another outstanding outing against Baltimore.
He recorded 148 receiving yards and a touchdown in Week 7 before following it with 155 yards and two scores against Tennessee.
That’s 303 receiving yards and three touchdowns across two consecutive games.
While Ja’Marr Chase also delivered an excellent performance, Higgins earns the top spot because of his production and ability to finish drives.
Cincinnati needed every bit of its offensive firepower to escape Tennessee.
Higgins delivered.
He takes our gold medal for Week 8.
🥈 2. Christian Watson — Green Bay Packers
Week 8 Stats: 8 Receptions | 113 Yards | 0 TD
Sometimes, excellence goes far beyond the numbers.
Christian Watson’s performance against Carolina was one of the most remarkable stories of Week 8.
During the second quarter, Watson hauled in a 53-yard reception but suffered a frightening injury after landing awkwardly with defenders on top of him.
He was coughing up blood on the sideline and was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for examination.
Tests revealed a broken rib but no internal bleeding.
Remarkably, Watson returned to Lambeau Field and reentered the game during the second half.
He finished with eight receptions for 113 yards, leading Green Bay in receiving as the Packers defeated Carolina 27–19.
The determination required to return after such an alarming incident deserves tremendous respect.
Of course, a player’s health must always come first, and returning from an injury should never be treated as an obligation.
But after receiving medical clearance, Watson chose to continue competing and contributed to an important Green Bay victory.
His 113 receiving yards were impressive.
His perseverance made the performance unforgettable.
Christian Watson earns our silver medal.
🥉 3. Michael Wilson — Arizona Cardinals
Week 8 Stats: 8 Receptions | 111 Yards | 1 TD
Michael Wilson played a crucial role in one of Week 8’s most dramatic victories.
The Arizona receiver caught eight passes for 111 yards and a touchdown as the Cardinals stunned Dallas 33–30 in overtime.
Wilson developed an immediate connection with Gardner Minshew after the quarterback entered the game.
As Arizona attempted to overcome its deficit, Wilson consistently provided a dependable receiving option.
His defining moment came with just six seconds remaining in regulation.
Minshew found Wilson for a 13-yard touchdown, tying the game at 30 and giving Arizona an opportunity to complete an improbable comeback.
Although the ensuing extra point was missed, the Cardinals eventually secured the victory in overtime.
Wilson’s touchdown was one of the most important receptions of the entire week.
Without it, Arizona doesn’t reach overtime.
That’s exactly the kind of impact EST Excellence rewards.
Eight receptions, 111 yards, and a game-saving touchdown earn Wilson our bronze medal.
Honorable Mention: Adonai Mitchell — New York Jets
Week 8 Stats: 7 Receptions | 142 Yards | 1 TD
Adonai Mitchell delivered an outstanding individual performance despite New York’s 38–33 defeat against Las Vegas.
The Jets receiver caught seven passes for 142 yards and a touchdown, producing one of the highest receiving yardage totals of Week 8.
Mitchell averaged more than 20 yards per reception, demonstrating the explosive ability that makes him such an intriguing offensive weapon.
His longest reception went for 47 yards, and his touchdown helped New York remain competitive in a high-scoring contest.
The Jets ultimately couldn’t secure the victory, but Mitchell’s performance deserves recognition.
After an inconsistent start to the season and time missed through injury, this was an encouraging display of his potential.
Not every outstanding individual performance results in a win.
Mitchell earns our honorable mention for his explosive production against the Raiders.
